Rumi Restaurant

design Letterbox | client Rumi Restaurant

The highly respected levantine restaurant Rumi has a multi-tiered persona. Although its cuisine is ‘Contemporary Lebanese’, it is named after a famous Sufi Saint. As well as requiring careful multi-lingual design, this identity design extended to the external signage on Lygon Street in Brunswick – a perfectly opaque black cube – part 2001 A Space Odyssey and part Kaaba. The restaurant menus come in two flavours, featuring photography of Beirut from Rumi founder and chef, Joseph Abboud.
